“My Regenerative Farming Playbook”

Five Check Points:

1 - Ecosystem - Create a farm specific analysis and action plan based on input from experts.  Local Soil & Water and Forestry provide the expertise.

2 - Knowledge - Reach into the endless supply of Inputs but focus on only a few objectives at a time.  This means Scaling your Ideas into ‘project sets’ that can pivot.   Be Humble. Embrace acceptance of Mother Nature in Harmony with Possibilities.

3 - Skills - Learn, Hire, Share, Develop, and repeat. Expertise is learned by doing.  Iron sharpens iron, learn by investing the effort. Kindness Matters and Sweat is required.

4 - Experience - Early to bed and early to rise, daylight is precious.  Protect yourself from injury and sun. You will get dirty. Buy Gloves.  Leave muddy boots at the Door. Dress in layers to strip down before coming in the house.

5 - Resources - Know you don’t know it all.  Sort out the gems from the stones.
Give yourself time to read, watch, listen, and comprehend.  Your time is valuable and not all people have something valuable to say. Follow the actual Farmer not the herd.

One this special date in 1906, Herbert Holland Brown, aka “Hub” was born.

Grandpa Brown was remarkable. His wife, Agnes Victoria Mahar Brown was equally amazing. Together, they lived the life that HH Hub Brown wrote about in the Tioga Press titled, “Some Observations in the Hill”. He typed his stories on an old IBM typewriter and eventually began typing on an electric typewriter.

He was always telling stories and writing valuable snip-it’s of his reflections during his 104 years on this earth. At Christmas time he would handwrite and eventually type a personal Christmas card to members of his family and dear friends.  I am pretty sure he started writing them before the first frost to be able to mail them out for Christmas.

He has passed and we hope to continue to pass on all of his stories as, “Historical Observations from the Farm” and in a joint effort of family, neighbors and friends, create “The Next Generation of Observations from the Farm” as our tribute to our family farm on Welch Rd.

We hope you enjoy!
